Sky Customers: Here’s why their emails might be misleading you

Thinking of leaving Sky penalty-free? Heads up. Some customers are being told they can cancel penalty-free, then receiving misleading emails about termination fees!

13th March 2025

So, you’ve received Sky’s price rise email and are ready to make your great escape? Good choice. But wait—another email saying you’ll have to pay hundreds in cancellation fees? That can’t be right, can it?

Well, watch out. Turns out Sky is being a little… tricky.

The price rise loophole – But with a catch

If you’re a Sky broadband customer, you have a legal right to leave penalty-free when they hike your prices in-contract. You just need to cancel within 30 days of being notified. Sounds simple, right?

Not so fast. If you decide to switch using the industry-standard One Touch Switch process (which is supposed to make switching smoother), you might receive another email from Sky warning you about hefty termination fees. But here’s the thing – you won’t be charged these fees if you’re leaving due to a price rise. So why are Sky sending these emails?

Sky email

Confused? That’s the point

These misleading emails are making customers hesitate, thinking they’re about to get hit with a huge bill. In reality, you’re entitled to leave without penalty, as long as you act within the 30-day window they have given you. Sky’s emails are either an unfortunate mistake or a deliberate attempt to make you second-guess your decision.

How to escape without paying a penny

  • Contact Sky directly – Before assuming the worst, give them a call and ask for written confirmation that you can leave without termination fees due to the price rise.
  • Don’t let the One Touch Switch email scare you – If you receive a warning about fees, challenge it immediately. If you cancel in the 30-day window you won’t be charged.
  • Keep records – Take screenshots of any price rise notifications and your cancellation request. If Sky tries to bill you unfairly, you’ll have the proof you need to ensure you won’t have to pay.

Don’t get locked in – act now!

Sky’s price rise means more money out of your pocket for the exact same service. If you’re eligible to leave penalty-free, don’t let a dodgy email keep you trapped.

Want a provider that doesn’t play these games? Check your postcode today and switch to Grain—where your price will stay fixed for the full contract term.
