Sky customers – leave penalty-free and escape the price rises!
Once again, broadband price rises are a hot topic, but there’s good news for Sky broadband customers—they have a window of opportunity to leave Sky penalty-free and escape the rises.
24th February 2025
Sky has announced yet another price rise, this time by 6.2% from 1 April 2025 – and no, sadly it’s not an April Fool’s joke. But here’s the good news – if you act fast, you should be able to cancel penalty-free.
As soon as you get the official notification from Sky, you have 30 days to give them notice and switch to a provider that won’t hit you with price rises during your fixed-term contract.
Sky vs. Ofcom: The Price Rise Loophole
Despite Ofcom cracking down on sneaky, inflation-linked price rises, Sky have not embraced the spirit of this change, instead opting for a fixed price increase.
Despite inflation currently sitting at 2.5%, Sky is hitting customers with more than double that, taking their Gigafast package from £44.00pm today, to £46.72pm from April*. Over a 24-month contract, that’s almost £60 more!
Bundled services with Sky?
Great news—if you took out your TV package at the same time as your broadband, Sky has confirmed you can cancel your broadband penalty-free and move to a TV only tariff. Not eligible to leave just yet? No worries—when your contract ends, make the switch to Grain and enjoy truly fixed prices with no in-contract hikes—ever.
Martin Lewis has long been a champion for consumer rights and encourages customers to avoid unfair in-contract price hikes at any opportunity – so it’s worth checking your contract details to see how and when you can escape (whether with Sky or another provider!).
Check your postcode today and lock in a broadband deal that won’t change, for the full contract term.
Inflation figures taken from the Office for National Statistics as at December 2024.
*The exact increase you pay will depend on the products you are subscribed to. Gigafast pricing of £44 per month taken from Sky website on 7/2/25, based on their Full Fibre Gigafast package. Price rises based on advertised 6.2% increase from April 2025. Calculated on a 24-month contract starting in February 2025, and assuming an increased price from April 2025 until February 2027. For the purpose of this calculation, we have assumed no further price rise in 2026.
